  1. The cold war was a deological, political,
  2. and economic tensions between 1945 and 1990 
  3. between the USSR and Eastern Europe on the
  4. one hand and the USA and Western Europe on 
  5. the other. The Cold War was exacerbated by
  6. propaganda, covert activity by intelligence
  7. agencies, and economic sanctions; it 
  8. intensified at times of conflict anywhere in
  9. the world.
  10. Arms-reduction agreements between the USA
  11. and USSR in the late 1980s, and a diminution
  12. of Soviet influence in Eastern Europe, 
  13. symbolized by the opening of the Berlin Wall 
  14. in 1989, led to a reassessment of positions,
  15. and the "war" officially ended in 1990.
